It keeps growing! Finally, we decided it was time to get rid of the mullet. Yesterday, we brought Alex to a kids' stylist. Alex loved playing on all of the toys there, but was not too excited to have a strange person hovering over her head. We tried distracting her with a lollypop (her first one) and a video (also her first one) but they only helped for a few seconds. Luckily, the hairdresser was fast. Afterward, Alex got a balloon--she loved it--and her tears were soon gone.

10 Fun Alex Facts
1. Has about 8-10 signs
2. Loves music--she asks for it to play ALL day long. She notices the 5 seconds of silence in between songs on the CD and signs for more music
3. Loves taking baths--when we tell her it is bath time she runs for the bathroom
4. Climbs all over Lacey (and Lacey, being the sweet dog that she is, lets her)
5. Tries to put on her clothes
6. Is still not a big eater, but we can count on that she will always eat salmon and blueberries
7. Loves to sweep
8. Loves to read
9. Loves throwing herself onto soft objects (blankets, beanbag, etc.) when we say "poof"
10. Still loves to swim, but more specifically loves the big water slide--that is pretty much all she wants to do when we are at the pool. She giggles the whole way down and raises her hands above her head.
We feel so blessed to have her in our lives!

fall 2011
It has been a busy fall...a wonderful trip to Rockaway Beach, Alex's first steps (13 months--just decided one night she was going to walk and spent 2 hours walking straight--never went back to crawling), Halloween with the Galicia's, trips to Bend and Corvallis, visit from Grandma, and all the fun Portland friends and activities. Here is a sample....

big week
Alex had a week full of exciting firsts:
1. She climbed the stairs--all of them (usually she just does 1 or 2 and then stops)
2. Started putting toys in things instead of pulling them out
3. Tried putting food on a spoon and in her mouth. She laid the spoon flat on the tray, put a piece of pancake on it, and attempted to pick the spoon up and put it in her mouth.
4. Is getting good at communicating her wants--she crawled and got a shoe and crawled back to me. She tried putting the shoe on herself and then looked at me and handed me the shoe and looked back at her foot--asking me to put it on.

one!
Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! It has been an amazing year.
The day started with birthday pancakes...

which quickly ended up birthday pancakes for Lacey (our baby girl preferred her usual black beans).
We then visited dad at his new job for lunch and ran errands to prepare for her party this weekend! Of course we got in our playtime and evening snuggles.
